The old DiC dub. I remember watching it after coming home from kindergarten. I also used to rent the VHS tapes (and later DVDs) from Blockbuster growing up.

Remember VHS tapes and Blockbuster? I suddenly feel old now, even though I'm 23...

Back in 2000, I saw Sailor moon video covers back in Blockbuster, though I'd never asked my parents if I could rent them. Then for the first time, I saw the english dub anime 2 years later for a short time.

In the late 90's I caught a couple episodes and loved it, a show with girls being the heroes really got my attention. But at the time elementary school me was being pulled away from "girly stuff"
so I didn't get to actually watch Sailor Moon until I saw Hulu was just starting to stream it in 2014 so I found all 200 subbed episodes online and was totally captivated , I spent weeks just binge watching all the episodes before reading the manga afterwards .

Passed it by on my internet travels in the early 2010s a few times, but really got into it during a show searching binge after catching up on Steven Universe.

It went like dominoes: Dragon Ball Z Abridged -> Red vs. Blue -> RWBY -> original Dragon Ball/Kai -> came back to this show -> seeing how wacky/amazing/feelstastic this show is, just like Steven Universe.

I'm watching through it now (illegally, sorry mods) using a filler free guide and the wiki to see if there are episodes that catch my eye. I'm in around the start Nephrite's saga as of this post.

I came across sailor moon in the late 90s with the DiC version. I was shopping with my dad and some beautiful artwork of some really cool looking girls in sailor suits caught my eye and so I asked him to please buy me a VHS. I LOVED the show and looked for more episode tapes. Later I would collect all the movies released by Pioneer as well. When I was in middle school, a friend introduced to manga and anime. It wasn't Sailor Moon, but now that I knew more about Japanese pop-culture, I was able to go back and look for Sailor Moon on my own, and I soon realized there were over 200 episodes available, a wealth of merchandise and so much I had missed! I went through the whole Japanese series, and some of the manga, and to this day I love PGSM more than ever! I even went back and watched the old PGSM live version and on a recent trip to Japan acquired some SUPER cute SM themed makeup and sailor scout socks!

I love the world that Naoko Takeuchi created, the strong magical girl image, and the awesome friendships as well as the original and imaginative story lines! Also, like so many of us, you can't help but fall in love with Tuxedo Mask  (as well as the rest of the gang! =^_^= )

BTW, who is/are YOUR favorite scout/s?? OF COURSE we love them ALL! But, if I HAD to chooose...I'd say Jupiter!

Like many other Moonies, I grew up with SM :D

I remember I was about 14 or 15 years old when SM started airing in my country Australia in the 90s and early 2000s and I became hooked instantly, it became very popular here, many kids in my school were watching it too when it was airing :D

I grew up with Voltron, Robotech, and while waiting for one of those shows to come on TV, I ran across this super-cool show called "Sailor Moon". I still remember the very first episode I saw . . . the one where Darien battles Sailor Moon/Princess Serena before Queen Beryl. I instantly fell in love with the whole "Prince/Princess" romantic theme that I so wished I could see in Voltron (between Commander Keith and Princess Allura - that sadly never came to be . . .)

I digress . . .

The more I watched Sailor Moon, the more I fell head-over-heels in love with it. My TV station changed the time and moved Sailor Moon from 4:30pm to 6:30am. That didn't deter me. I had to watch SM! I got up and watched it, even though I hadn't been scheduled to be at work until 9pm. I guess I'm a serious Moonie! :D

In 1995 my sister and I were allowed to get a toy on a shopping trip. The store was carrying some of the 6 inch Irwin dolls. We thought they looked really awesome so we decided to get those. My sister picked Mars. Looking on the back of the box, I instantly was drawn to Sailor Moon but they didn't have her so I settled for Venus. Later, I did get a Sailor Moon doll and my sister got a Mercury. We played with them a lot but didn't even know it was a show (much less a manga or what that even was) at the time. After a while we sort forgot about them.

A few years later we saw the bumper/ ad for the "17 Lost Episodes" on Toonami. We pretty much flipped out saying, "Oh my gosh, those are our dolls!" We then ran to the basement were some of our old stuff was being kept, to find them. We watch Sailor Moon the next time it was on and the rest is history.

Thought might be fun to share our stories of how we got into Sailor Moon.

I got into Sailor Moon when I was in 8th grade and my friend was making Sailor Moon Valentines. I asked her about who the characters were and she told me about Sailor Moon and she let me borrow her old dub tapes of the movies and the last few episodes of SuperS. Needless to say I became hooked on Sailor Moon from her introducing me to it and so did the other girls in my class. Around 2010 or 2011 I finally watched Sailor Moon subbed, the old dub, and PGSM.

I was watching the dubbed version on tv while i was around 4-5 years old.i kept on watching it until i was 12.then they stopped airing it,but i was already drawn into the series little by little.it was so much fun to discuss about it with my classmates and doing researches around the web (shrines and anipike was popularat that time being.) I finally completed watching subbed version last year.I'm rewatching every once in a while.

I think that this is an appropriate first post on this forum!

Back in the day, when I was about 13/14, I was really into Adventure Time. I was looking into the crew, and then I came upon Natasha Allegri's tumblr. She drew such amazing artwork on her blog that I decided I wanted to be a storyboard artist, just like she was. I actually planned on becoming one for a few years afterwards.

So, I noticed she drew a bunch of fan art, particularly of something called Sailor Moon. I looked into Sailor Moon, watched a few episodes online, and I was hooked! SM was the first anime I watched where I actually knew I was watching anime. I drew SM art a lot, too.

Nowadays, I'm not really planning on becoming a artist, but I still love all sorts of anime, esp. Sailor Moon, and still draw very often. All thanks to this one random artist behind a show I liked! ^_^

Well, I guess it started with my resurge in interest with Golden Age/Classic animation in December, which led me to watch Steven Universe from January to February since I heard it was a major good part of modern animation. I watched that and loved it and other modern animated series, which got me started on RWBY and other stuff like DBZ Abridged which I found out about from watching SU. This all then got me into the anime world in May, in which I started with One Punch Man, Kill la Kill and DBZ Kai from where abridged left off at the time. I then saw the classic anime series that I thought would keep me occupied for a while due to similar themes with shows I previously watched. I started, then by the end of the Jadeite story I was hooked.

Now I've just recently finished episode 123, and seen the R movie as well. My current plan is to reach the end of Stars, watch the S movie, the SuperS movie (with Ami's First Love), and the 3 SuperS specials by the time either June or September rolls around.

I'm also reading the manga, but I can let that slide for a while more as I just finished the Dark Kingdom arc of that.

I basically got into it when it first came out in America. I saw the previews for it and I thought it looked really cool. I watched the show and immediately I was hooked. It is also what gave me an interest in astronomy and astrology and helped me memorize the names of the planets.

In all honesty, I used to completely hate Sailor Moon, I thought it was dumb, pointless, ridiculously girly, and so obviously a ploy to sell toys to children. (Although let's be honest - that last part is true)

But, I also watch a LOT of tokusatsu and a former friend of mine, a couple years ago, suggested that I try the live-action series, since I like toku. And well, I did, and I liked it, I genuinely did.

And of course, from there I rented the manga from my library and watched the 90's anime on Hulu lol.

(Ironically I already liked Ami and Haruka before watching the show - but I have a major thing for girls with short hair and lesbians, don't judge me)

Also I should say that it was Sailor Moon that helped me memorize the names of all of the planets or atleast the planets we knew of at the time.

Quotes from my forum introduction post"

Quote:
Name is Red, I am 32...two people introduced me to a show called Akazukin Chacha (which I like a lot, in fact I like the characters a lot better than Sailor Moon). I noticed that Akazukin Chacha, when transformed into "Magical Princess" form, had a "Sailor Moon costume".

So I asked my sister (now in her late 20s) if she used to watch Sailor Moon, since I remember her liking it. She told me it was a thing all the girls watched every morning at 6:30 before they left for school. I showed her the Akazukin Chacha transformation, since she was wearing a "Sailor Moon costume". She told me the transformation sequence was "similar", but that it was not a "Sailor Moon costume", but the Japanese school uniform. Unfortunately she said she was too young to remember details of the show, other than that Sailor Venus was her favorite character.

I started watching Sailor Moon (the Viz dubs and some of the subs on Hulu)...

I'm 32, and remember video/video game rental places (I live in the woods so no major chains). One time in the early 2000s I was with vacationing at my grandmother's and saw at the video store a South Park episode I had not seen which, on the back cover, said it was "so controversial, it was never shown again!" It was actually a Terrance & Phillip-only episode which was shown instead of the Part 2 of the "Who Is Cartman's Mom?" episode as part of an April Fool's prank, which was "banned" because fans didn't appreciate the joke. (This was years before any of the terrorist attacks and threats which resulted in actual banning of South Park episodes.)

When I was in the seventh grade, a girl whom I was becoming acquainted with in my art class was obsessed with Sailor Moon at the time. It was her favorite thing to talk about. One day she brought a folder of printed out Sailor Moon images. She held up one of all of the sailor guardians and told me about each of them one by one. She singled out Sailor Neptune, suggesting that I would favor her because her powers are ocean-related and she is an artist/musician like me. (She was right.)

My curiosity was piqued enough to do my own research online after that. I visited numerous fansites, acquainting myself with the series through image galleries, low quality video clips, and character information. (My favorite was a Sailor Neptune fansite called Neptune's Palace/Soldier of the Abyss, whose webmaster I later befriended.) The DiC dub was airing on Cartoon Network at the time, so I began watching that (I think the first episode I saw was 34, when Sailor Moon's identity as Princess Serenity was revealed). I enjoyed the dub for a while, but quickly transitioned to subs when I was able to obtain VHS fansubs.

I shared my interest in Sailor Moon with several offline friends; we drew fanart together and, for some reason, assigned one another as a certain sailor guardian. (I was Sailor Neptune; my best friends were Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon.) It meant absolutely nothing - we didn't actually roleplay, cosplay, or anything, so it was kind of an odd thing. (I guess it's kind of like those "claiming communities" that were trendy on livejournal years ago.) We made up our own sailor guardians, too. It was fun. I also befriended a number of people through Sailor Moon online in my early to mid teens, many of whom I met in person and/or still keep in touch with today.

Why was assigning a Sailor Guardian to each of your circle of friends such a thing anyway? There's a Sailor Moon podcast I listen to and all the hosts said the same thing happened with their circle of friends.

How I got into Sailor Moon was, when I was younger my godmother Lula used to let me watch Cartoon Network and I think it would either come on at night or early in the morning and I would watch it. I was so fascinated by all the pink and all the shiny thing lol. Which is funny, I actually HATE pink now with a passion. But yeah that's how I got into Sailor Moon.

Yes, I've heard of other Sailor Moon fans doing the same with their groups of friends as well.

It kind of reminds me of when I was younger (around eight or so); my friend (the aforementioned "Sailor Chibi Moon") and I were into Power Rangers. She had discovered the show first through her older brothers and then introduced it to me. Her favorite was the Pink Ranger, and therefore she'd "claimed" that character already. Initially, I was okay with assuming the Yellow Ranger as a favorite character and as the character I'd play when we played together. (This pretty much consisted of play fights in my backyard.) But after I watched the series for a bit, I found that while I admired Trini (the Yellow Ranger), I identified much more with Kimberly (the Pink Ranger). This created a dilemma because I was no longer willing to be designated the Yellow Ranger all the time, and she wasn't willing to share the Pink Ranger. We were no longer able to play that game. lol

Although we no longer played make believe games at the age that my friends and I got into Sailor Moon, it was kind of the same thing. I guess there's something fun about being able to "claim" a favorite fictional character to yourself and have others identify you with that character. Maybe for some people, it is like assuming that character as a part of their identity? Certainly I think I've been like that to some degree with Michiru/Sailor Neptune, and others I've known have done that with other fictional characters.

It's kind of strange, but I think it's something that a lot of people do innately.
